File format
CheckList file format is tab-delimited text.
It is easy to edit with any text editor and to import-to/export-from MS Excel.
Here are the examples of an actual CheckList file kennedy.txt
and its MS Excel counterpart kennedy.xls.
Though one can create a CheckList file from scratch using only the text editor,
it may be convenient to work with MS Excell file and convert it into tab-delimited text afterwards.
0: # - Special field, described below; 1: Country - Country of issue; 2: Catalog # - Catalog number; 3: Denomination - Denomination; 4: Date - Date; 5: Type - Type (mint mark, PROOF, nickname); 6: Material - Alloy for coins, paper/polymer for banknotes; 7: Size/Weight - Yes, size and weight ;) 8: Notes - Any kind of notes; 9: Reserved - Reserved for future versions, leave it blank; 10: Picture - Picture (to be used in future versions); 11: Reserved - Reserved, leave it blank; 12: User notes - For user notes, leave it blank. Special field should be blank or have one of the following characters: "#", "%" or "*" #: - Comment. The line will be ignored. %: - Grayed subtitle. *: - Default fields.Country, catalog number or denomination can be the same for all coins in the list.
Converting from MS Excel
File -> Save As -> Text (Tab delimited)(*.txt)
Excel may add some extra quotes in your file.
Those can be easily removed:
Open the file in Notepad.exe, Edit -> Replace..., replace all quotes with nothing.
National alphabets
Special characters and national alphabets are supported by CheckList software.
(Appropriate fonts have to be installed on your PDA)
If you use any special characters in your CheckList oe index file, it should be saved as UTF-8 text.
If your version of MS Excel does not support UTF-8, save your file as Unicode text,
then open it with Notepad.exe and save as UTF-8.
Share your CheckList
If you wish to share your CheckList with other collectors, you can send us the file or the link.
It will be published on the CheckList homepage with all required credits.
